Say hello to yoga

It’s a total new fad to do Yoga these days. Age-old concept, it got its popularity and the new-age acceptance when Baba Ramdev came into picture. Scantily clad in saffron clothes, he gave Yoga the definition, we know today. So gone are now days where Yoga (or Yog, as depicted in Hindu mythological texts) was a way of salvation, a way of life. Fitness CDs by Bipasha Basu, Shilpa Shetty and even Hollywood celebrities seems to have shifted the focus to Yoga as a mere exercise. But why not. Asanas while doing Yoga can be really beneficial for effective weight loss. How, let’s see:

  • PADMASANA (Lotus Pose)

This pose is considered best for meditation. It is especially highly commendable for the Beginners in Yoga. This simple asana is very simple to perform. Select a flat surface, like flat ground, and spread your legs apart. Then, place your right foot on the left thigh and the left one on the right thigh and place the hands on the knee joints. It is beneficial for not only setting up your posture right, it also helps in easing out stomach disorders and reducing belly fat.

  • DHANURASANA (Bow Pose)

Done with an empty stomach, the pose rightly allows one to form a human bow. It not only relieves joint pains, including back aches, but also helps provide flexibility to the spine and reduction of fat along the thighs, butt, stomach and also the tight flab of arms. Repeat this pose five times to begin with and increase the repetition gradually. It is best performed in the morning.

  • TRIKONASANA (Triangular Pose)

The picture above shows how the body twisted to form a three-angled pose. It not only relieves gastric problems, but also helps in increasing the trunk as well as the length of the legs. It also strengthens spine, providing flexibility in the vertebral column, but also reduces fat along the bust, stomach, hip region along with the arms.

  • ARDHA-MATSEYENDRASANA (Half- Matseyendra Pose)

This half pose helps curing problems related to urinary bladder and releases stiffness along the spine and the pelvic region. Doing this at least five times (in the beginning and then increasing gradually) tones the nervous system and draws a fresh and increased cycle of blood cells. It also eliminates fat around the hips, stomach, legs and torso.

A very basic exercise, it is revered as a beginning of healthy lifestyle as this 12 step long exercise routine covers a lot of asanas and as seen in the picture, allows a rhythmic movement of body muscles and helps reduce fat. Moreover, this routine is performed in the early morning hours and helps in blood circulation and thus causing cleansing of the skin and providing glow to the skin.

“Early to bed and early to rise, makes the man healthy, wealthy and wise”, we all grew up with this proverb. But still, fighting obesity is the biggest task that we face with our current lifestyle and practices involving unhealthy and adulterated food, inadequate sleeping practices, stress, pollution, inefficient and inadequate body movements etc. May this article be a drop of respite in this ocean of unhealthy life.
